You Should Feel Sorry For Me

Well maybe you shouldn’t really feel sorry for me.  I don’t really demand your pity.  The tale that will be told today is a tale full of despair, sorrow, hopelessness, perseverance, and retribution.

This tale probably should start back in January when I tried out my snowboarding skills at snow creek.  You may have heard that they recently were hacked and the theives managed to get a way with a lot of credit card numbers. Snow Creek. Well come to find out last Thursday that my card was one of the unfortunate victims of this dastardly crime.  The call came from Visa to inform me that there was some unusual activity on my card.  Well, only unusual if I had the ability to be at work and be at some casino in the Dominican Republic at the same time.  After it was all said and done they managed to get $700 out of our account.  Visa and the bank are currently investigating and I am awaiting reimbursement.

So now fast forward six days.  I have no debit card and am notoriously bad at carrying cash.  It is the middle of midterm week and class lets out early.  On the way home I come across a massive pot hole.  I am guessing this pot hole was only slightly smaller than the Grand Canyon.  6:30 pm on Southwest Traffic way does not leave much room to swerve and miss a miniature Grand Canyon.  This leaves me hurling into the mighty chasm which renders my left front tire flat shortly after.  I manage to pull into a spot get the tire changed to find out the my spare is also flat.  For whatever reason gas stations in downtown Kansas City must have a shortage of air because every gas station charges .75 to $2 for air.  Since I don’t have a debit card I can’t hit an ATM and I don’t want to pay the outrageous fees for using a credit card at the ATM.  I managed to stop at every gas station between SW boulevard off of I-35 and the Quiktrip on Truman and I-435.

Is there a lesson to be learned here?  Should I carry cash?  Should I check my spare reguarly to make sure it is aired?  Do I have an uncanny ability to remain calm in situations?  Yes, Yes, Yes, and Yes.  Luckily today is Dr. Suess’ birthday and while reading to Emma for bed I was imparted with some wisdom.

“Today is gone.  Today was fun.  Tomorrow is another one.  Every day, from here to there, funny things are everywhere.”
